Message Ok, to catch you up to speed. I installed a 60K mile 5 speed trans in my Z about a month and a half ago. I put Mobil1 75W-90 synthetic in the slosher. It worked great, no grindage at all, but after about 1000 miles, I started noticing 2nd and 4th gear would grind occasionally. Well, being very frustrated and not wanting to rebuild ANOTHER trans, I decided to go with Redline.. Let me tell you this, if you are running ANYTHING other than Redline, your a fucknut. Better yet, a STUPID fucknut. As soon as I installed it, I ran her nice for about two miles to warm everything up, then got on it, and I got on it HARD and fast. Speedshifting --- NO PROBLEMS --- 2nd to 1st gear downshift smooth as butter.

Then I proceeded to take her to the highway... Came off the on ramp in 3rd gear, WOT, slipping into the middle lane of I75, passed a few people who were ahead of me on the ramp who merged far right, left em in the dust, then SLAM! into 4th gear. NO GRINDAGE! Took her on up to 100, coasted back down to 90 then dropped her quick into 4th gear! NO GRINDAGE!

I never would have thought that trans lubricant would have made such a difference! I figured its all pretty much the same. No way. Not after my experience tonight.

Thinking about it a bit more, it seems that if the gears were grinding, then the Mobil1 wasn't providing the necessary friction for them to work properly. I know this may sound weird, being that lubricant is supposed to reduce friction, but this is not always the case. It's all dependent on the component's design that it is working with. Mobil1 was basically making them slip.. If this is the case, and you are running something else, you are working your syncros more than necessary. Even if you dont have any grindage now, you'll prevent the early onset of it by using Redline..

Just my $.02 on this...
